What it does
Groundswell follows the direction a commodity fund has already been moving and stays with it until that direction turns. It is slow to join and slow to leave, so it gives back part of a move at the end and misses the start.
It runs the same rule at several settings at once and holds the blend, across the commodity funds this book can hold - a broad commodity basket fund and the gold, silver, natural gas and crude oil funds. It only ever buys; when a price is falling it stands aside rather than betting on the fall.
Its worst case is a market that keeps changing its mind. In a sideways stretch it will keep joining moves that do not last, and pay to get in and out each time.
